On Wednesday night in Las Vegas, Team USA and Team Canada met for a bit of a tune-up game before they head to Paris for the Olympics.
This is the second time in the past 10 months that the two teams have faced off against one another, with Canada beating Team USA in overtime of the bronze medal game in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Things have been going a bit differently this time around, as Team USA assembled an Avengers-like squad with notable names like LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, and Steph Curry all suiting up for the Stars and Stripes.
It marks the first of five exhibition games that Team USA will be playing, and the game has been full of highlight-reel plays even despite America’s turnover issues to start the game.
However, even with all of the flashy ball movement, tough shots hit by Anthony Edwards, or physical drives by Jayson Tatum, no play has generated more buzz than one that ended with Curry lobbing it up to James who slammed it home for an insane alley-oop.
‘After an errant pass by Nuggets star Jamal Murray, James took it coast-to-coast where he dished it off to Curry who lobbed it up for him to finish.
Through the first three quarters, Team USA is leading by a score of 69-54 after Edwards drilled a buzzer-beating three. While James and Curry are the headliners of the team, Edwards himself has said that he views himself as the No. 1 option on the team.
The Stars and Stripes have to love how strong they are looking against a Canadian team that many think can push for a gold medal next in Paris.
