Dozens of kids in Long Beach were taken aback on Tuesday by two sports superstars, one of whom appeared on the floor and the other on stage.
A newly renovated basketball court was unveiled at the Boys & Girls Club with the assistance of reigning NBA Finals MVP Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors and entertainment legend Snoop Dogg, who also spoke to the kids about the value of community.
The club unveiled its unique basketball court, created by comic book artist Damion Scott (birth name: Damion Scott), in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. Snoop (birth name: Calvin Broadus) and Steph (birth name: Wardell Curry II) surprised almost seventy children with their visit.
I gained knowledge on how to play football and basketball here, as well as how to get involved in the community and form relationships. In this very park, I basically learnt how to converse, rap, and just be myself,” Snoop Dogg stated in an Under Armour press release.
The Steph Curry Brand and Snoop Dogg partnership, which aims to use youth sports to give back to low-income neighbourhoods and give kids a safe space to fall in love with the game, made the revamped and rebuilt court feasible.
Curry stated, “We want to create an environment where you can come have fun, get lost in the competition, invest in yourself, and be surrounded by a lot of incredible coaches and programmes.”
The renovated court will benefit hundreds of children from the local Boys & Girls Club as well as other organisations including Long Beach Parks and Recreation and the Snoop Youth Basketball League, according to club officials. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach has been serving the community for about 40 years and currently has over 200 children enrolled.

It’s where Snoop and his spouse, Shante, spent their childhood playing. Along with artist Damion Scott, Snoop and Curry also hope that the court will last and continue to benefit the most vulnerable children in the community.
“The main goal is to return and witness the children attempting to surpass us in their endeavours. The main goal is for us to provide these kids with greater possibilities than we were able to,” Snoop stated
During Curry and Snoop Dogg’s visit to the Boys & Girls Club, the youngsters received personalised t-shirts, motivational talks, and of course, some hoops.
