It has been almost thirty years since Tiger Woods initially started to transform the game of golf and inspire kids from all backgrounds.

 Even yet, the sport is still dominated by white players. One hand’s worth of Black professionals compete at the top level, and elite amateur and collegiate categories are largely homogeneous.

Although some excellent organisations have done a great job of getting impoverished kids interested in golf, it is still very difficult to keep them interested in the game long enough to gain the abilities and motivation needed to play it professionally or even as a serious hobby. There hasn’t been much progress made in terms of creating long-lasting involvement and making it easier to access the social networks, internships, and professional chances that come with participating in the sport.

Tiger Woods has unquestionably had a significant cultural influence. Because to him, countless people from all walks of life have taken up golf or learned to value it as a real sport. It’s common to oversimplify criticisms of Woods for not taking concrete, intentional steps to diversify golf.

Together, his decisions have produced some of the most compelling and dominant golf ever seen, and his TGR Foundation has advanced education significantly in line with his enormous star power. Some leaders in the golf community, though, might see this as a lost chance.

Expanding access to driving ranges and courses in underprivileged neighbourhoods may not be as simple as a short putt, but it’s hard to imagine a better chance than what Woods had during the height of his career.
