’10 Rebounds, 1 Assistant, 30 Points’: Luka Doncic struggles in the first match with the return of Kristaps Porzingis giving the Celtics a satisfying opening

After being out for 10 games, Kristaps Porzingis came back and scored 20 points off the bench to help the Boston Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks 107–89 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.

Because of a right calf strain, Porzingis hadn’t played since Game 4 of Boston’s first-round series against the Miami Heat. He didn’t seem to mind the long break, though, as he shot 8 of 13 from the field and grabbed six boards and three blocks.

Even though Porzingis didn’t get the ball first, he set the tone right away when he checked in with 7:17 left in the first quarter.

The big man tormented his old team by scoring 11 points and stopping two shots in the first quarter, which gave the Celtics a 37–20 lead after 12 minutes. In the history of the Finals, no team has ever built a bigger lead in the first quarter of Game 1.
