According to Dylan Manfre of Sportico, the jersey that Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant was wearing when he tore his Achilles in 2013 sold for $1.2 million at auction.
“The signed 2013 Bryant jersey was photo-matched by memorabilia authentication company MeiGray and features the NBA logoman patch and a purple circle patch with the letters “JB” honoring late Lakers owner Jerry Buss, who died in February 2013,” Manfre wrote
The cost of a Bryant jersey is significantly less than it has ever been. More than $5.8 million was paid for the one he wore during his MVP season in 2007–08.
With the likes of Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty and Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, major Achilles injuries aren’t quite as devastating as they once were.
However, following his collapse on April 12, 2013, during a 118-116 victory over the Golden State Warriors, Bryant’s career was never the same.
Just 107 more games were played by the eighteen-time All-Star until he retired in 2016.
Considering the significance of that night in his NBA narrative, each piece of memorabilia from that event has extra meaning.
