LeBron James separates himself from the Lakers’ quest for a head coach while rumors about JJ Redick circulate.
LeBron James, the standout player for the Los Angeles Lakers, will not be engaged in the selection process for head coach, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
James isn’t talking about the position, but reports indicate the Lakers are thinking about hiring JJ Redick, who co-hosts a podcast with him, as their next head coach.
“I’m told LeBron James is not involved in the Lakers head coaching search. … James has made it clear that this is the organization’s decision, he’s had no conversations with the Lakers about JJ Redick,” Charania told Run It Back on FanDuel TV.
Kenny Atkinson, Sam Cassell, and James Borrego are among the other possible contenders for the Lakers coaching position.
After two seasons with the team, Darvin Ham was fired as head coach, and the Purple & Gold are looking to replace him.
James may or may not suit up for the Lakers in another game. He hasn’t made up his mind about his $51.42 player option for the 2024–25 campaign, but according to The Athletic, Los Angeles is willing to extend it.
LeBron is anticipated to compete in the NBA for two more seasons.
