The last time LeBron James played for the Cleveland Cavaliers was six years ago.
Cavs fans still remember.
Since James’s Los Angeles Lakers were out of the playoffs, he went to Cleveland to watch Game 4 between the Cavaliers and the Celtics with his wife Savannah and agent Rich Paul. Boston got the win 109–102.
During a short break early in the game, the Cavaliers showed their appreciation for James on the video board. The Cavs’ public address speaker then brought him back as if he had never been away. It was like he was still on the team when the fans gave him a standing applause.
Fans from all over the arena stood up to honor the hometown hero who played for the Cavaliers twice and won their first and only title in 2016.
Like everyone else, James took it all in and reacted with kisses to the crowd.
Where will James play next season?
So, is it possible for James to stay in Cleveland for a third time? The love fest at Game 4 on Monday will add to the rumors as James heads into the offseason when he can choose not to renew his deal with the Lakers. James lives close to his city of Akron and hasn’t been to a Cavaliers game since he left the team for the second time in 2018.
One of the most-anticipated choices of the offseason will be where James goes, whether he stays with the Lakers or goes somewhere else. Fans in Cleveland would love to have him back. The Cavaliers have a strong team, as shown by their run to the second round of the playoffs. James could make them even better.
James’ son Bronny James is at the NBA Draft combine in Chicago. He was medically cleared Monday to play in the NBA after having a heart arrest at USC last summer, which adds to the excitement of the offseason.
Teams that want to get James this offseason would be interested in Bronny, who is likely to stay in the draft. On Monday afternoon, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka was in Chicago to watch him.
James, on the other hand, hasn’t said anything about his plans other than to put an end to rumors and say that he hasn’t made up his mind.
