When it was Lakers Night on Tuesday, Davis threw out the ceremonial first pitch. That night, the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 16-3 at Dodger Stadium. It was a happy 26-year-old Kenley Jansen after the pitch went over the plate and into his glove:
Jansen asked Davis to come throw out the first pitch in a music video for August 8 Lakers Night. Cody Bellinger, who was in the running for National League MVP, left Davis before he pitched:
The 26-year-old All-Star forward has been living in L.A. since the Pelicans and the Lakers made a big trade in the middle of June. First, Davis played for seven years with the Pelicans, who got him with the first pick in the 2012 draft.
After the deal, Davis had his first meeting with the press in the middle of July. He told them how he felt.
If you asked me if hearing that I was being moved made me feel better, I would say no. It was something I had thought about for a long time. When I heard I was going to be traded to the Lakers, I saw it as a great chance to be here. It was certainly hard for me to leave the team where I had played for seven years.
Also, Davis said he wished to “bring a championship here.”
The Dodgers have lost the last two World Series. The Lakers, on the other hand, haven’t been to the playoffs since 2012–13.
It makes sense to wonder whether the Dodgers or the Lakers will bring a title to L.A. first now that Davis is playing with LeBron James.
