LeBron James wore a pair of Nike LeBron 21 shoes that were based on a signature shoe from the 1990s worn by Deion Sanders when he played in his record-setting 21st NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night.
This unique pair of shoes had claw mark stripes that were also on the Air DT Max ’96, which is also known as the Air Diamond Turf 3. It was also made in the same white and black color scheme with gold highlights, which just so happens to be the colors of Sanders’ old school, the Colorado Buffaloes.
This month, Nike released a brand-new version of Sanders’ third signature shoe along with a reissue of the third shoe with his name on it for the first time. Sanders’ shoes have been brought back several times since they were first released, but the brand has not put the markings on them because Sanders wasn’t associated with the brand for a long time, ending with his retirement in 2024 (hence the unique name). Sanders, who was then signed with Under Armour, made it clear that he would never go back to Nike.

On the other hand, Nike has made three more pairs of current basketball shoes for this year’s NBA All-Star Game that are based on old models. The GT Jump 2 was based on the Total Foamposite Max and the GT Hustle 2 was based on the Air More Uptempo. The Zoom Flight 5 gave the GT Cut 3 its idea. James is going to be an all-star for the 21st time in a row, which is both a record. Both records were set by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who had 19 points.
At this point, we don’t know if the Nike LeBron 21 “DT Max ’96” will be offered to everyone or just players. When more information comes in, this post will be changed. Footwear News has reached out to Nike for a response.
