A few weeks ago, USC’s basketball season came to an end in the Pac-12 Tournament when they lost to Arizona 70-49. The Wildcats are the top seed in the tournament. The Trojans were playing some of their greatest basketball of the year before to the game, but they could not muster any offense. After the season ends, Bronny James has to make a decision about his future. He recently decided to test the waters and maintain his eligibility in the NBA Draft; if he returns to college, he will register through the transfer portal.
Everyone assumed that James would play for USC for a year before entering the NBA when the season started. But he did not have the year that was expected of him. At the conclusion of the season, James averaged 4.8 PPG, 2.8 RPG, and 2.1 APG.
That is the problem. Bronny plays collegiate basketball at an extremely high level as a true freshman. Most true freshmen end up on the bench during their first season. This season, Bronny has shown us the usual growing pains that come with playing college basketball. We wouldn’t be shocked if other true freshman had these same developing pains. Of course, Bronny is a different story.
It will be interesting to watch the response Bronny James gets if he chooses to enter the NBA Draft. If he wasn’t the son of LeBron James and the NBA wasn’t showing any interest in him, it would be evident that he should return to school. However, he will be noticed because of his father, and it won’t hurt him to find out what that attention means. Teams are probably thinking that if they pick Bronny, his dad would want to come play for them. It will be fascinating to observe what Bronny chooses to do with this incredibly fascinating role.
LeBron James wants to play in the NBA with Bronny James, thus some teams might be considering selecting him. If he was unrelated to LeBron, it’s doubtful that he would be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft this year. But if it meant LeBron followed him, teams might give it some thought. The Bulls are already home to one of the two contestants in the GOAT debate, and they would likely be pleased to have the other as well.
LeBron has limited time left in his career, but most NBA teams wouldn’t mind if they were the team he ends up playing for. He is still one of the finest players in the league even though he isn’t playing at his best right now. The Bulls should give it some thought.
Bronny is a great basketball player even if it is obviously risky to select him in this year’s NBA Draft. Even though the previous season wasn’t successful, he is still a tremendously gifted basketball player. He didn’t play as much as was expected; he was a role player. The son of one of the all-time greats would still be available to the Bulls with a second round selection. Bronny still has a lot of potential, and the way things have been going in Chicago, it might be worth a shot.
