Showing off his extensive watch collection, Kobe Bryant descendant Jayson Tatum

Laura Schreffler, the chief editor of Haute Living, talked to Celtics star Jayson Tatum for Haute Time about his love of fine and unique watches. What she found out was this.

HL: Which one do you believe is the most important? Have you bought a Rolex before, or is this your first one? Which piece is the most important?

To JT, The Rolex is a sure thing because it will teach you something no matter what. The watch was the first thing that got me interested in strange clocks. “That’s a nice one you’ve got there” being greeted with praise is one of my favorite things about going into certain places. Additionally, the average person thinks that all watches work the same.

I got a frosted Audemars Piguet in the year 2020. It’s one of a kind because it’s an AP mold with frosting on top of it. I’ve only seen a few people with frosted APs, so they’re pretty rare. However, the fact that its face looks like a skull makes it stand out and adds to its rarity. There are some people who buy useless watches that are frozen.

But in this case, they hit the rock with a hammer. The frost on the white show what would happen if you hit the diamond. It doesn’t have any diamonds on it. For some reason, it looks like little snowflakes. It was the first time I bought something very special. It’s something I’ll only wear to formal events where I know its value will be recognized. They often ask, “How did you get this?” When did you get this? And it feels good to feel that way.

HL: I see you like special, high-end watches. Things that are either one-of-a-kind or shared by only a few people are what you want. What does that have to do with?

To JT, For starters, I always tell people to get useful things. Spend your money on things that you really enjoy. Not just the most stylish things can be helpful. That being said, you have to buy it if you like it and want to wear it. I have learned that you are not required to copy what other people do. If you like it, just buy it. One thing that I wear is a watch.

I won’t buy them if I don’t want to put them in a case. If you can’t get what everyone else gets or don’t want to, you need to network, meet new people, and build relationships with different brands. Some people in my life really care about me, and we have a strong bond. I’m really thankful that whenever one of these rare or unique ones shows up, they always get in touch with me. It’s like getting something that other people don’t have: it makes you feel great.

: Does that mean you still want to be the best St. Louis basketball player of all time? Along with wanting to be the best, would you also like to have the best?

To JT, Do great things and be the best. Everyone has a weakness. It’s all about the watches for me.
