Jrue Holiday, who is in his first season with the Boston Celtics, is supposedly going to get a brand-new deal worth $135 million over four years.
Adrien Wojnarowski of ESPN said that Jason Glushon, Holiday’s agent, told him that Holiday is turning down his $37.3 million player option for the 2024–25 NBA season in order to sign a long-term deal that will keep him in the league until the 2027–28 season.
Holiday is a guard who will be 34 years old in June. He averages 12.5 points, 4.9 assists, and almost 33 minutes of playing time per game for the Celtics. 5.4 rebounds per game is a career high for him, and 43.1% of his shots are from 3-point range, which is also a career high.
The two-time NBA All-Star has also been named to the All-Defensive First Team three times and the All-Defensive Second Team twice before this season.
According to reports, Holiday’s deal will save the Celtics several million dollars in salary cap next season. This should help Boston keep Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, and Derrick White, who are all expensive and talented players.
Wojnarowski says that Holiday will be the fourth player over the age of 33 to sign a fully guaranteed deal worth more than $100 million. NBA stars LeBron James and Stephen Curry are on that list, as well as Al Horford, a big man for the Celtics.
