Anthony Davis will not play in Sunday night’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Los Angeles Lakers said. Davis was hit in the left eye.
It was a good start for Davis in the first quarter. He scored four points, grabbed four rebounds, gave three passes, and stole two balls. This gave the Lakers an early lead.
At the end of the frame, though, he had a huge putback dunk and Kyle Anderson elbowed him in the eye. Davis fell and was in a lot of pain right away. He had to go back to the changing room to get checked out.
In Davis’s absence, the Lakers had a terrible second quarter and lost badly to a tough Minnesota team. As expected, L.A.’s defense had a hard time without him, and he was later ruled out for the second half.
This eye problem is scary because Davis has been hit there three times in the last few weeks. He was also taken out of the game against the Golden State Warriors because of the same thing. It’s still unclear whether he hurt the same eye problem again or if this is a new one, but the Lakers will need to keep an eye on it as they head into the last week of the regular season and then maybe the Play-In Tournament or the playoffs.
The Lakers have had a hard time defensively this season without Davis. Hopefully, it’s not a serious problem that makes him miss some big games coming up.
