In Pinehurst, during the World Golf Hall of Fame’s inaugural event, Steph Curry will be presented with the Charlie Sifford Award.
In addition to the numerous basketball honors he has received, Steph Curry has accumulated a sizeable collection of golfing memorabilia.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Curry would receive the Charlie Siffоrd Award in June of the following year, during his entrance into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Those who have gone “above and beyond” to advance equality in golf are recognized with this award.
This is the moment of the Pinehurst Resort & Country Club hall opening ceremony.
Seven of the original thirteen founders of the Ladies Professional Golfers’ Association (LPGA), Padraig Harrington, Tom Weiskopf, Sandra Palmer, John F. Reel, and Beverly Hanson, will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2024.
“Grateful to the World Golf Hall of Fame for the recognition in this sport that I am so passionate about, I am immensely honored to be the recipient of this year’s Charlie Siffоrd Award,” Curry stated. “We have the opportunity to grow the game of golf by providing equity, access, and opportunity to young golfers who have that same passion, dedication, and determination as so many of us out here on the green,” a player once stated on the green.
After six years of promising to completely sponsor both men’s and women’s golf at Howard University, Curry will be honored in 2023 with the Ambassador of Golf Award for his advocacy work on the PGA Tour.
There were no Black golfers in the 2017 U.S. Open field, and Black golfers make up fewer than 2% of the sport’s overall participation.
Greg McLaughlin, CEO of the World Golf Hall of Fame, said that Curry “has shown passion and a commitment to giving more opportunities to young people who do not have access to the game of golf.” Steph’s dedication to broadening golf’s appeal is representative of champions like Charley Sifford. The World Golf Hall of Fame is committed to continuing Southern Company’s legacy for future generations by recognizing those “cоmmitted tо mаking gоlf an envirоnment fоr аll,” such as Steph.
