Forward Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers provided a succinct yet impactful assessment of LeBron James’ play in Sunday’s 116-104 victory over the Brooklyn Nets.
Declaring James’ performance, which included 40 points on 13 of 17 field goals and 9 of 10 three-pointers, “masterful,” Davis told reporters:
With his 21st season under his belt, the 39-year-old put on yet another impressive display.
Because he told reporters “not very long” when asked how long he’s going to play, fans should make sure they show their appreciation for him while he’s still stuffing stat sheets. “I will not play for another twenty-one years, no question about it. not for very long, though. As far as when I’ll retire, I have no idea when that door will close. However, my remaining time is limited.”
Previously in his career, the King’s ability to shoot three points was not as strong as it could have been, especially when considering how well he performed in practically every other area of the game.
But as he gets older, it isn’t the case anymore.
This season, James is hitting 40.1 percent from three-point range, demonstrating how hard it is to stop him even at this point. Even with his current shooting form, defenders are unable to easily sag off him to create space. He can still bully his way to the rim and through the lane. With victories in six of their past seven games, the Lakers are also beginning to play more like a team. They are currently 1.5 games ahead of the Golden State Warriors for ninth place in the Western Conference, and one game behind the Sacramento Kings for eighth.Achieving the eighth spot would be crucial because the play-in tournament’s non-elimination matchup between the Nos. 7 and 8 seeds is set to take place. In contrast, there’s an elimination game between the nine and tenth seeds. When play-in and playoff time roll around, the Lakers will have a shot against anyone as long as James keeps shooting like he did on Sunday.
