In a late-season Western Conference game on Sunday, the visiting Golden State Warriors defeated the struggling San Antonio Spurs 117-113 behind the contributions of 33 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals from Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

After a sloppy start, Golden State battled back to cut the deficit to eight points at the half and then secured the advantage with 14 points in the third quarter. Victor Wembanyama scored six points during a 9-0 run to help San Antonio pull ahead 113-111 with 59.4 seconds remaining.

With 39 seconds remaining, Klay Thompson extended the Warriors’ advantage to five points with a second-chance 3-pointer. With 3.9 seconds left, Green made one of two free throws after Wembanyama had missed two to seal the victory.

With eight games remaining, the Warriors (40-34) won their fourth straight game—all of them away—and gained a two-game lead over Houston in the battle for the final play-in position and 10th place in the Western Conference.

Moses Moody scored ten points, Brandin Podziemski scored twelve, and Klay Thompson scored thirteen. For the third consecutive game, Jonathan Kuminga was absent from the Warriors due to knee tendonitis.

For the Spurs, Wembanyama scored 32 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Zach Collins scored 13 points, Malaki Branham and Tre Jones each scored 12, while Sandro Mamukelashvili contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds. Cedi Osman scored 18 points off the field.

Key reserve Keldon Johnson (foot) and starters Devin Vassell (foot) and Jeremy Sochan (ankle) were not available for San Antonio (18-57).

After one quarter of play, the Spurs had taken a 32-19 lead at 1:28 until Chris Paul’s pullup jumper with one second left pulled Golden State to within 34-27. After Green’s layup cut Golden State’s lead to 60-52 in the half, San Antonio extended its lead back to 10 points.

Before the half, Osman had the highest scoring total of 15 points, while Curry had 12 points for Golden State. The whole half was spent without a single free throw attempt by the Warriors.

Early in the third quarter, the Warriors took control thanks to a 14-0 run that included nine points from Green and a 3-pointer from Curry. Golden State increased their lead to 11 points during the quarter and ended up leading 89-81 going into the last 12 minutes of play.
