All season long, Anthony Davis has been the Los Angeles Lakers’ best player, and D’Angelo Russell has received a ton of recognition for his performance. In the Lakers’ thrilling victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, both players once again showed their mettle, but this time, guard Austin Reaves also received some well-earned roses.
With just 38 seconds remaining in the second OT, Reaves made a huge clutch 3-pointer to break a tie. He also recorded his second career triple-double with 29 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. After the Lakers managed to defeat the Bucks by four points, Russell was all smiles as he complimented Reaves.
Russell, who hasn’t missed a game this season, referred to Reaves as the Lakers’ “iron man” and mentioned how having players like him makes a head coach’s job simpler, via Spectrum SportsNet:
“What more have we said about this guy? He is a fighter. He is unbreakable. What can I say? This guy defends the best player; he comes back on defense whether the shot is made or not. He basically does everything well. When you have a guy like that on the floor, you know what he’s going to do and what you’re going to get, so as a coach, I believe he makes it easy for you. He is yet to miss a game. He is a warrior and an iron guy.
Reaves hasn’t quite reached the level of a borderline All-Star, but he has still played a great season for the Lakers despite the notion that he would. Reaves has taken on the task of guarding the best guard on the other side, and as Russell pointed out, he performs a more than commendable job at it while also being one of the club’s primary offensive producers. His consistency is much needed.
Reaves demonstrated during the previous season’s playoffs that the Lakers can count on him in the most important games, and the team’s reliance on him was reinforced on Tuesday night against Milwaukee.
