The Los Angeles Lakers held on for a 150-145 victory over the visiting Indiana Pacers on Sunday, extending their winning streak to three games. Anthony Davis had 36 points and 16 rebounds, while LeBron James added 26 points and 10 assists.
The Lakers (39-32) sans D’Angelo Russell (sickness) scored a season-high 26 points from Spencer Dinwiddie and 25 points and eight assists from Austin Reaves. Now, Los Angeles has a difficult six-game road trip starting on Tuesday.
Even though the Lakers defeated the Pacers in the in-season tournament championship game, the result of that match was not taken into account for the regular-season rankings. On Friday, the teams will play again in Indianapolis.
The Pacers (40-32) came into the game having won five of their previous seven games. Pascal Siakam scored 36 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, while Myles Turner chipped in with 20 points. After five games on the road, Indiana is presently 2-1. On Monday, they play the Clippers in Los Angeles.
Tyrese Haliburton, a star player for the Pacers, was limited to 12 points on 5 of 13 shooting with 10 assists. Haliburton recently finished an 11-game run that saw him shoot 19% from 3-point range and 39% from the floor. That run ended last Monday.
For Indiana, T.J. McConnell scored 17 points, Andrew Nembhard scored 15, and Doug McDermott scored 14.
The Lakers scored 42 points in the second quarter to take a 72-68 lead into halftime, while the Pacers had surged out to a 36-30 lead after one quarter. Los Angeles maintained their offensive pressure, winning the third quarter 44 points to 116-99.
In the fourth quarter, the Pacers came close to within 127-123 with 5:33 left thanks to a 3-pointer from Aaron Nesmith. With 3:50 left, Indiana was within 131-127, but with 1:45 left, Los Angeles embarked on a 9-4 run to take a 140-131 lead.
With 1:36 remaining, Turner scored a 3-pointer for the Pacers. However, with 55.7 seconds remaining, Davis responded with a floater inside to put the Lakers ahead 142-134. With 21.6 seconds remaining, the Pacers closed the gap to 148-145, but the Lakers ultimately prevailed.
