On Saturday night, Jaylen Brown wore the Nike Kobe 6 Protro “Reverse Grinch” to the court. Brown’s shoe is different because it was made to honor Kobe and Gigi Bryant. This shoe has been seen a lot in the NBA this season.

This pair of shoes had a hand-drawn pattern on each quarter panel. There were also two photos of Kobe and his daughter on the sides of the shoes. On the left shoe, there is a black-and-white picture of the two of them from behind wearing uniforms. Gig has his hand on Kobe’s waist. There are also two Bryants biting their shirts on the right. Kobe liked to do that. “In loving memory of Kobe and Gigi” is written by hand in the middle of both sides.

Mark Rivero, whose Instagram name is “SolesBySir” and who lives in Miami, made the shoes for Brown. Rivero is known for making special boots for NFL players, but Brown and a few MLB players also wear his shoes all the time.

He said he made the shoes for the Celtics’ holiday game against the Los Angeles Lakers, an old rivalry. Rivero said this on Instagram on Christmas Day. But Brown didn’t put them on until the game against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. He wore a different pair of Kobe 6 Protro “Reverse Grinch” shoes before that. Those shoes were customized so they didn’t have a Nike Swoosh on them.

You can see that Brown’s Kobe 6s no longer have the Swoosh on them, which is something he is used to. Brown had said before that Nike made a mistake when they cut ties with Kyrie Irving after Irving posted an anti-Semitic video on social media and didn’t quickly change his mind. For some reason, Brown has kept wearing the brand’s boots, but the main name is no longer on them.

In December, the Nike Kobe 6 Protro “Reverse Grinch” came out. It was the opposite of the Kobe 6 “Grinch” that Bryant wore on Christmas Day, 2010. Because the shoe is 10 years old, the “Reverse Grinch” Kobe 6 Protro came out in December 2020.
