Center Christian Wood of the Los Angeles Lakers hasn’t played in over a month because he hurt his knee and was worried that it would keep him out for a long time. Lakers coach Darvin Ham hasn’t said much about Wood’s health in the month since he got hurt, so it’s not clear when he might be ready to play again.
But as the 2023–24 season draws to a close—the Lakers still have 13 games to play—injuries are going from being long-term to finishing the season. The fact that several Lakers players are still recovering has led to a lot of questions about what’s going on with Ham. Wood may have the hardest time getting back this season of all the Lakers players who are hurt.
Since Wood has the same injury and treatment as Vincent, things may not look good for him. Vince had surgery at the end of December, and it’s still not clear in March if and when he’ll be able to go back to work. Of course, everyone is different, and Wood is likely to miss a few weeks.
There is still no proof that this injury will end Wood’s season, but time may be running out. After Tuesday, the Lakers’ regular season is over. They have three weeks and five days left. Their last game of the season is April 14, and Wood would have to get back very quickly to make it.
If the Lakers can make it out of the Play-In Tournament, they might be able to add Wood to their playoff squad while he is healthy. But for now, Jaxson Hayes will continue to play a lot of minutes in support of Anthony Davis. He has been playing well lately.
