The Los Angeles Lakers had a tough loss to the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, and their next game was at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday.
The Thunder were the top seed in the West, but they were playing their second game in a row. Because of this, the Lakers easily won 116–104.
As the game began, the Thunder were up 13-2. Chet Holmgren scored five points, and Josh Giddey and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander each scored four. The Lakers were getting more and more angry when Austin Reaves got a technical foul early on.
But LeBron James lobbed the ball to Anthony Davis, which made the Thunder call a quick timeout. After the break, Oklahoma City kept up its good play and quickly took a double-digit lead thanks to some careless mistakes by L.A.
The Lakers finally got hot from the field when Rui Hachimura, Reaves, and Taurean Prince all made shots from deep in a row. After Dinwiddie made a score and Reaves made another three, the game was tied at 25 at the end of the first quarter.
After the first quarter ended without a goal, LeBron James began to push more in the second, which gave him and his teammates easy looks. Also, Reaves kept making great shots from deep, and all of a sudden, the Lakers had a double-digit lead, which was the exact opposite of what had happened.
Still, Lu Dort got hot after that and got the Thunder back in the game. But the Lakers still had a lot of energy, and James and Davis led another run to end the half, giving them a 52-43 lead at the break.
At the beginning of the third, the Lakers came out firing again, and both Reaves and Russell made shots from deep. The Thunder also had trouble with L.A.’s size, and Davis kept beating them up inside. They went on a 12–0 run to take a 79–64 lead, which was their biggest of the night up to that point.
It was all L.A. from the end of the third quarter on, and they went into the fourth with an easy 89-72 lead.
It didn’t stop there for the Lakers; early in the fourth, Prince and Russell hit threes to make the score 20–10.
The Thunder were on the second night of a back-to-back, so it was clear that their legs were tired. Since that was the case, they couldn’t make a run because Russell hit two more triples that ended the game.
