With 29 points from Jaylen Brown and 27 from Jayson Tatum—who turned 26 on Sunday—the NBA-best Boston Celtics defeated the fatigued Golden State Warriors 140-88 on Sunday, posting their third-largest winning margin in team history.

The Celtics, who have won three games in a row by 50 points or more, established a league record with Payton Pritchard’s 19 points. Their winning run now stands at 11 games. Boston had a record-breaking lead of 44 points at the half and 51 points early in the third quarter before head coach Joe Mazzulla used his backups for the remainder of the game.

“It feels fantastic, but humility is always present,” Brown remarked. We don’t consider the game to be simple. We simply handled business and took care of it; that’s how we respect the game; we didn’t come and screw around. .. Although we have a great deal of respect for the Golden State Warriors, we believe that now is our moment.

After sitting out the second half, Stephen Curry finished with a season-low four points for Golden State, the fewest points he has had since he only scored three points in 16 minutes against Boston on March 16, 2022—a game from which he left the game due to a foot ailment. On Sunday, Curry shot just 2 of 13 from the floor and missed all 9 of his 3-point attempts, including back-to-back misses in the first quarter.

Curry remarked, “From the way they’ve been playing, they seem very confident in who they are and what they stand for.” “Acknowledge them. It was one of those perfect storms where we had a terrible day and they took it out on us. Tonight, they came out and whooped us right away.

The Warriors suffered their fourth-worst loss in team history. They had won eleven out of thirteen, including the first three games of their tour up the East Coast, which had three games in four days and a challenging drive to Toronto that involved spending hours sitting on a tarmac overnight.

In a team-high 33 minutes, Lester Quinones scored 17 points to lead Golden State. Moses Moody (11 points) was the only player for the Warriors to score in double figures, and none of the starters played longer than twenty minutes.

After the first quarter ended with the score knotted at 21, the Celtics went on a 58–13 run that put them ahead by 35 points at the end of the second quarter.

In the first quarter, Green played some unusual defense by letting Brown alone and fouling him by at least five feet multiple times. Brown’s three consecutive three-pointers in forty seconds set off the run.

“We told Jaylen to shoot 20, 30 3s if they’re going to keep doing that,” Pritchard said.

With five of his eight three-pointers made throughout the quarter, Brown scored 19 points to give Boston a 44–22 advantage.

Brown remarked of the shoddy defense, “First time it’s ever happened to me.” To be honest, I was taken aback. It required some acclimatization, but we made the most of the effort that was made.

“We can also shoot if you dare me to,” he continued. Although we took advantage of it and didn’t look back, I felt it was a little disrespectful.

Curry, who had right knee bursitis and was deemed doubtful, warmed up and decided to play. He airballed the following two after front-rimming his first three.

“Boston was incredible. Steve Kerr, the coach of Golden State, stated, “We weren’t beating them today.” Though he could have used one, Steph did not take the day off. He’s played for so long and so brilliantly this year; maybe in the next few days, he’ll refuel.

Boston shot 57.1% overall (16 of 28) and 62.5% on threes (10 of 16) in the first quarter.

In the second, Tatum’s three from the left wing made the score 74-34.

Boston made as many 3-pointers (15 of 24) in the first half as Golden State did baskets, but the Warriors missed 15 of their 18 3-point attempts.

Boston led 82–38 at the half and was met with a standing ovation on the Boston court.

The nationally televised contest between the teams that faced each other in the NBA Finals two years ago had a rather muted audience in the second half. That series was won by Golden State in six games, which they completed at Boston.

When Tatum posted his birthday wishes during the last quarter, the crowd did indeed give him a standing ovation. He grinned broadly and waved to the gathering.
