Lakers’ Cam Reddish gets a hopeful injury update for the game against the Clippers

If all goes well, the Los Angeles Lakers could get back their best perimeter defender just in time for a game against their star-studded cross-arena foes. Head coach Darvin Ham says that Cam Reddish is getting closer to coming back from the ankle injury that kept him out for a month. He might be able to play in Wednesday’s game against the LA Clippers.

Cam is doing good man’, Ham told Michael Corvo, a Lakers beat writer for ClutchPoints, on Tuesday. “He just practiced today, so we’ll see how he wakes up tomorrow.”

It’s been over a month since Reddish played because he hurt his right ankle in the Lakers’ loss to the Clippers by ten points on January 23. The fifth-year pro was supposed to be re-evaluated after two weeks, which made people hopeful that he’d be back before the All-Star break. However, Reddish didn’t get better as quickly as expected. His status was changed from “questionable” to “not probable” for Sunday’s loss by the Lakers to the Phoenix Suns, but he didn’t play.

Cam Reddish will likely come off the bench whether he plays against the Clippers or the Washington Wizards the next day. He quickly became a starter for the Lakers because of his ability to defend at the point of attack. However, Ham has since switched to teams that focus more on offense to make LeBron James and Anthony Davis’s jobs easier. D’Angelo Russell has started his last 22 games in the backcourt with Austin Reaves. During that time, Los Angeles has turned around its once-losing season and gone 14-8. Half of those games, or nine out of the last ten, have had Rui Hachimura start next to Russell, Reaves, James, or Davis.

Paul George won’t be able to play on Wednesday because of a knee injury. This makes it easier for the Lakers to guard Kawhi Leonard and James Harden. If Reddish is available, he will probably check Harden a lot when they are both on the court. This will leave Hachimura and James to check on Leonard. Max Christie, a sophomore guard, could also lose playing time when Reddish comes back.
