Jayson Tatum is openly discussing the highs and lows of being a father and a professional athlete as he prepares for another NBA season. The 29-year-old Boston Celtics star talked on balancing his professional sports career with parenting his 5-year-old son, Jayson “Deuce” Christopher Jr., in an appearance as a guest contributor for the NBA’s Starting 5 newsletter.
Tatum said that he feels fortunate to spend some amazing moments with his young son when he said, “The best part about being his dad in season is the games.” Because of that, we have a close relationship. He likes to watch me play, hang out at the Garden, and play in the locker room when he comes to the game. It’s been amazing to watch him grow as a person over the years since we grew up in the Garden together,” the delighted father remarked.Tatum acknowledged that there may be instances when it is challenging to put work before of family, particularly if it means missing his son’s birthday.Depending on our schedule, it can be difficult to miss his birthday. I didn’t get to spend a few years of his birthdays with him. Furthermore, we are on the road and are unable to attend every school event or basketball practice’, he said. Even though this is my seventh season, I still find it tough to deal with it since you never want to miss those things. They grow up so fast.
