“I told Luka to move Steph a little closer to the basket”—Nikola Jokic remarks on his role in a prank involving Luka Doncic and Steph Curry during the All-Star Game

As for their plot to trick and mock Steph Curry at the All-Star Game, Nikola Jokic revealed, “I told Luka to move Steph a little closer to the basket.”

Since the All-Star Game was more of a showcase than an actual competition, Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic decided to act it out like a game show.

During pregame shooting lines at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Sunday night, Steph Curry—a player from the Western Conference—was spotted dunk-ing on Nikola Jokic. Curry was facing away from Jokic.

It was discovered that the Nuggets centre was involved with someone else.

“Did you happen to look at that?” Excitedly, Jokic said. “That video is essential.” Someone told Luka to take Steph a little distance from the basket.

The two best buddies, Jokic of Serbia and Doncic of Slovenia, are very close. They spent the most of their team’s 211-186 loss joking about with one another. On one occasion, they went coast to coast without touching the ball as they passed it.

“Luka is terrible,” Jokic remarked. “He struggles with the game.”

Jokic brought a lighthearted and gregarious attitude to his sixth All-Star Game, which his teammates enjoyed. Even though the majority of his league’s players are native English speakers, the two-time MVP has not always had that kind of luck.

Jokic high-fived every member of the Western Conference bench as he exited the game. In addition to high-fiving East coach Doc Rivers, he made a corner 3-pointer in front of Rivers’ bench. During transition, he laid it up instead of dunk, which made everyone chuckle. In the final two minutes, defenders shifted to make room for him to attempt a slam. Once he hit one with his right hand, he and Karl Anthony-Towns both flexed at each other.

“Why the Mavericks.” In the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, Luka Doncic was content to step aside and let others to shine.

Jokic stated, “Actually yes, I feel a lot better” in response to the event. By now, I feel like I know everyone. Having a conversation on something else, like basketball or anything else, rather than this game, allows you to observe how people think differently. “Spending so much time here makes me happy.”

In front of the media, Jokic beamed as he saw the video of Curry’s photo.

When asked why he would not sleep today, the NBA Finals MVP replied, “I think he was really mad at me.”
