To begin their six-game road trip, the Los Angeles Lakers won a thrilling game in double overtime. They played the first game of a back-to-back match in Houston, Texas, the next night.
The Rockets dominated the Lakers, 135–119. They appeared worn out from their victory over the Golden State Warriors.
D’Angelo Russell continued his jump shot streak after making a few early in the game. But the Rockets took the lead soon (15–8). The Lakers were behind by ten points moments earlier. However, in the midst of the first, Anthony Davis spearheaded a 7-0 run that made the score 22–17.
Los Angeles seized their first lead of the game when Russell converted his second three-pointer. Following a few layups by Jabari Smith Jr., this occurred. That was brief, though. Rockets fans clapped when Cam Whitmore made a few transition dunks. Texas started the second quarter trailing the Lakers 42–31 after going on a run at the end of the first quarter.
Vanderbilt was removed from the game for hitting and touching Brooks. Brooks made a dunk on Vanderbilt. Texas scored with ease, and Los Angeles’ defense began to falter. They dropped as much as 21 points behind.
In an attempt to tie the score, James and Davis went to the basket and hit a couple of baskets. Even though they were able to get the game going, Los Angeles was still behind at the half, 78–60. The second quarter ended with back-to-back threes from Brooks.
