Four current Celtics players were named to the 41-player pool that will be used to make the 12-person Team USA squad for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. This means that the Celtics could have a strong team there.

News from Shams Charania of The Athletic says that Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday—four of the five Celtics starters—were among the candidates. At some point, every player on Boston’s squad has played for the USA National Team. Tatum and Holiday worked together at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, and they both won a gold award.

When it was revealed that LeBron James, a star player for the Los Angeles Lakers, planned to go all out for the upcoming Olympics, rumors began about what kind of dream team group he might put together. Before the 2023–24 season started, USA Basketball apparently “aggressively pursued” Holiday to rejoin the team, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Holiday has not yet accepted the invite, which was sent months before the season started.

For Brown, who is 27 years old and just signed a record-setting $304 million deal, he could play for the US team for the first time as an NBA pro.

Brown played on the USA Men’s Basketball Men’s 18U National Team and won a gold medal in 2014. He was still in high school at the time. He played in all five of USA’s games during their perfect 5-0 run and averaged 7.3 points and 2.5 boards per game.

Brown has talked about being in the 2024 Olympics. He has been in the NBA for eight seasons and has been to two All-Star games.

During Celtics media day in October, Brown said, “I think there’s no greater honor.”

There is a long road ahead, but for now, the Celtics have to take care of their own business after a disappointing exit from the playoffs last year.
