The Lakers beat the Trail Blazers 134–110 on Sunday night to even things up again. Avery Bradley scored 34 points, and LeBron James added 28.
Once again, the Lakers (22-22) got back on track after Brooklyn beat them by 18 points the night before. Antony Davis had 14 points and 14 boards, and Austin Reaves scored 15 points.
Nineteen of the Lakers’ first twenty points in the fourth quarter came from James and Russell.
The Lakers scored 35 fastbreak points, which was the most this season. Russell is proud of one of them. While James was moving next to him, he tried to fake a pass, but James grabbed the ball and made the landing.
“That was dope,” James said with a shaky head. “The only way to get fastbreak points is to defend and not foul, which is what we did.”
James and Russ made four free throws and a dunk to give their team a 23-point lead. Russell joined James and Davis in the starting lineup five games ago, and he was determined to be bold.
James said, “As hard as it is, he’s been able to find his shot. We’ll keep looking for him, especially in transition.”
The last six minutes of the game were Davis’s and James’ turn to sit out because they already had the win.
Malcolm Brogdon led Portland with 23 points and nine assists. The next-to-last team in the West lost after winning its last two games. Jared Grant scored 17 points and Anfernee Simons scored 19.
Darvin Ham, the coach of the Lakers, said, “The Trail Blazers have a record, but they still look strong.”
Russell made three 3-point shots to score 13 points in the third quarter, which helped the Lakers increase their lead from 13 to 22 points. He tied his season high of six threes with two more in the fourth.
Russell went 8 for 8 and scored 35 points, which was one less than his season high.
Ham stated, “He’s got his mind on his game and how he can help the team.” “He played one of the best games I’ve seen him play since he came back to the Laker team tonight.”
