Nikola Jokic made a 40-footer with seconds left to win the game for the Denver Nuggets 130–127 over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night. The Nuggets had been down by 18 points in the fourth quarter.
With 34 points, 10 assists, and 9 boards, Jokic had a great game. With 26 seconds left, he made a short jump shot that tied the score at 127. Stephen Curry turned the ball over on Golden State’s last possession, which made it possible for Jokic to score the game-winning basket from near the right corner.
So far this season, the Nuggets have won 11 of 13 games and six in a row on the road. The Warriors lost their first three games of a seven-game homestand and could not get back to.500 after ending a three-game losing streak Tuesday night.
James Murray had 25 points and Aaron Gordon had 30 for Denver. Curry scored 30 points to lead Golden State. 24 were added by Klay Thompson.
After falling behind by more than ten points in the first half, Golden State pulled away in the third quarter, scoring 44 points to 24 for Denver. The Warriors were ahead 19–6 at the half, and Brandin Podziemski made three corner 3-pointers to give them a 107–94 lead going into the fourth quarter.
With 62% of their shots from the field, the Nuggets led 70–63 at halftime.
After three weeks of being banned without pay, Draymond Green missed the Warriors’ 11th straight game. ESPN said on Thursday that Green would be going back to the team facility in the next few days to get ready for his return. However, coach Steve Kerr did not confirm the story before the game.
Due to a strained leg, Gary Payton II will be out for a long time again for Golden State. The Warriors said that Patyon will be looked at again in three weeks.
